What’s going on: Steve Nash, 2 time NBA MVP, 8 time NBA ALL-STAR, and Hall of Famer was introduced as the new Brooklyn nets head coach today. Also, Nash is a two time champion as a consultant for the Golden State Warriors franchise. Pretty impressive resume, however not impressive enough as ESPN analysts and other sportswriters erupted today calling the hiring, ‘white privilege’.
Not woke enough: Steve Nash is an outspoken BLM supporter who currently has a picture of George Floyd as his Twitter profile pic. That has not saved him however from being told his skin color is the reason he was hired.
The NBA just isn’t black enough: Apparently diversity lectures that apply to corporate America do not apply to the NBA. The league currently is made up of 82% black players and the rest White/Asian and other racial mixes. That well isn’t good enough as it seems now they want coaches to be all black as well.
Stephen A. Smith saying the Nash hiring was ‘white privilege’:
In case you’re wondering, yes other hires have been made previously of black men that had zero coaching experience as well: Other former players like Mark Jackson, Isaiah Thomas, and Derek Fisher got the head coaching positions without experience
